- UF SFB funded 5 members to attend the 7th World Biomaterials
Congress in Sydney, Australia in May 2004. Each of these members
had at least one abstract accepted for this meeting for presentation
in either poster or podium format. These members were: Adam
Feinberg, Brian Hatcher, Margaret Kayo, Dan Urbaniak, and Amanda
York. A few pictures from this trip can be found of the
pictures page.
- At the 29th Annual Meeting of the Society For Biomaterials,
it was indicated that great emphasis will be placed on student
membership. Shema Freeman was elected as a Student Programs
Co-Chair of the Cardiovascular SIG. Margaret Kayo was elected
as a Student Programs Co-Chair of the Ophthalmologic SIG. Congratulations!!!
UF SFB was also awarded with plaques for Excellence in Community
Service and Fundraising, Excellence in Participation in the
Society For Biomaterials, and Chapter-of-the-Year for 2002-2003.
This would not have been possible without the efforts of our
UF SFB members! Congratulations!!!
- The Engineering Extravaganza was a huge success! It featured
a climbing wall, basketball hoops, popcorn, cotton candy, etc!
Several members of the Engineering and Science Fair committee
took time out of their busy schedules to work the events. Great
job!! to Iris Enriquez for an excellent schedule of events on
this day! And, of course, THANKS!!! to both Amanda York and
Iris Enriquez (both are UF SFB members) for working really hard
making popcorn and cotton candy for the College of Engineering!!!
- Congratulations to the Materials Science and Engineering Department
for winning Second Place at the Engineering and Science Fair!
- Congratulations Shema Freeman for a job well done with the
Engineering and Science Fair!
- The Engineering Field Day hosted by the Benton Engineering
Council was rained out... so we just played in the mud and ran!
- "Holiday Cheer" raised over $1500 in donations to purchase
holiday gifts for under priviledged children in Gainesville.
- The SFB sponsored "Canned Food Drive" collected 190 food items,
all of which were delivered to St. Francis House, Hospice and
the Salvation Army. Remember, your participation made this
event an immense success!
- The talk given by Mr. Steve Holmes of Kelly Scientific Resources
on Friday October 18, 2002 was a tremendous success! Thanks
to everyone who participated.
- UF SFB has elected Dr. Christopher Widenhouse at Cordis of
Johnson & Johnson to be our NEW Industrial Mentor!!!
